John H Hardeman DDS, MD is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and has been practicing for 30 years. After a successful career in private practice, Dr. Hardeman has transitioned into an academic position at the University Of Florida College Of Dentistry. He currently holds a position of clinical associate professor and is the Interim Chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He continues to be active in the OMFS residency at UF/Shands. He graduated from the University of Missouri- Kansas City School of Dentistry and the University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. His clinical interests include dentoalveolar surgery, trauma and trauma reconstruction, pathology, implants and the evaluation and reconstruction of trigeminal nerve injuries. He has extensive experience in the area of hard- and soft-tissue grafting in preparation of the oral cavity for future implant placement. Further areas of interest include team organization and preparation for office-based emergencies, and he has created several web-based programs to facilitate the training of dental teams for unexpected emergencies. Lecture Objectives:

-Become familiar again with the anatomy and function of the trigeminal nerve

-Understand the types and classifications of nerve injuries

-Understand the basic concepts of neurosensory testing of the trigeminal nerve

-Become familiarized with magnetic resonance neurography and its clinical impacts upon surgical intervention and repair of trigeminal nerve injuries

– Understand the indications and techniques of neurosurgical repair of the injured trigeminal nerve

-Be able to identify the stages of functional sensory recovery of the trigeminal nerve
